How to test offers in a draft checkout? (Shopify Plus exclusive)

When setting up offers using Monk in Shopify, it’s important to test them before going live. Testing your offers in a draft checkout ensures that discounts, free gifts, or cross-sells work smoothly before your customers interact with them. This prevents checkout errors and keeps your customers’ experience seamless. One easy way to do this is by creating a draft checkout. This guide walks you through how to test your offers safely using a Shopify draft checkout.

How to set it up?


  1. Ensure the app is 'Enabled' on your live theme. This can be done by going to Monk > Manage offers > Enable.


This will redirect you to the live theme, go to 'App embeds' section > Toggle 'on' for Monk > Save


If the app is not enabled on the live theme, the offers will not be visible on the draft checkout either, hence kindly ensure it is enabled.


  1. Go to Shopify Settings > Checkout > Configurations > Click on the 'Duplicate' option next to the live checkout


  1. This will create a copy of the checkout page. Click on 'Customize' button next to the draft checkout and then proceed to add the relevant Monk app blocks (progress bar, gift selection, gift auto add etc). Please make sure these app blocks are only added to the draft checkout and not on the live one (if Monk app blocks are added to the live checkout, the offers will be visible to your customers).


Please ensure all required app blocks are added to your draft checkout page. Without this, the offers will not display. Please refer here for more details.


  1. To preview this, click on the 3 dots next to the copy > Preview


With the app blocks added, the draft checkout would display offers similar to the below image :



In case there are 2 same offers set up on checkout, you will have to ensure that the combination setting for both offers are enabled and the widget ids are added to the app block as well. Please refer to this document for more information.
