How to use a product in offers that is currently unavailable on the store?

When managing promotions and offers, you may have certain products that you don’t want customers to purchase directly. This quick guide will walk you through how to hide any unavailable product from your Online Store, while still keeping it available in your Shopify backend for app setups or internal use. Follow the steps below to make sure your product is available only as part of your promos or offers - not as a standalone product.


How to hide the product?


Please go to your Shopify settings > Products > select the product > Go to 'Status' on the top right > Select 'Unlisted' option



What is the function of the 'Unlisted' Option ?


In Shopify product section, when a product is marked as “Unlisted”, it means:


  • The product won’t appear anywhere publicly on your online store — not in collections, search results, or navigation.
  • The product still exists on your store and can be accessed through a direct link (URL).
  • Customers can purchase it only if they have the direct product link, but they won’t find it by browsing your store.


After making the changes, please be sure to to run a manual sync by clicking on 'Sync Now' button at the top of the 'Manage offers' tab. Wait for the 'sync complete' message to pop up at the bottom of the screen and then run a test on your store.


Please note, the unlisted status will not hide the 'add to cart' button on that product page. If the customer is somehow able to access the unlisted product via a link, they will still be able to add it to cart. Hence, kindly ensure that the 'add to cart' button is also hidden. This is especially important when you are using duplicate zero priced free gifts. Please refer to this document on how to remove the button.
